Back Lit Fluff.

I was out for a walk with the kids yesterday just before supper and came across this little gem.

I really liked how the sun was shining through the fluff just right.

Sunset Flare.

I took this photo through the screen blind in my office. The sun was just setting and was giving this amazing flare through the blind. The flare is not from the lens but the blind. This is just how I saw it but a little under exposed to take the focus off the gray screen.

For this photo, I stood on the chair and had Mikayla looking way up at me. I had to bug her for a bit to get her to smile that great big toothy smile of hers. I always try to make even my snaps around the house as creative as I can and as technically correct as I can. Practice makes perfect.

Photo For Now #009

Being stuck creatively is a bad thing. I'm there right now. I have gotten many suggestions on how to break through it. One of my favorites is to take pictures of mundane objects from a different perspective.

Here is today's mundane object. My pen on my desk.

I love the 50mm f/1.8. Look at the shallow depth of field when it's wide open. It's only about 1/2" or so. Awesome. It is a little soft of focus when it's wide open but so what. That's really not the point. The bokeh is the point.

Here is a photo that I'm really happy with. It was about -3°C outside on Saturday morning and I noticed this line of frost covered leaves on the front lawn. Made for a great fall photo in the early morning light.

For this photo I captured a hot air balloon that was drifting over our end of town. I had been watching it for most of my drive home and was very happy to see it right where I wanted it when I got home.

I really like the side lighting. It really shows the shape and texture of the balloon. The late evening setting sun really added to the orange and red colors as well.

Well here is a cute photo I did in my back yard recently. We have tons of hares running around our neighboorhood just as I imagine most people do. This guy was having a nap in my back yard and didn't even flinch as I passed by him to go in my house. I grabbed my camera and came back out for a photo shoot with the little guy. I like this one the best. It's nice and sharp.

For #006 I have a portrait of my son that I took during his 4th birthday party. Man, how time flies, 4 already! Anyway, I was playing around with my 430EX during his party. I didn't want to have to fight with the lighting so I added my own. The flash over powered the ambient light which was alright for the day. I bounced it off the ceiling but angled slightly forward to get a little thrown his way.

Here is a photo I took while we were at the Edmonton Corn Maze on Sept. 6 2008. It's a shot of Jacob throwing some straw at me that I think captures the mood of the day.

For number 004 I have a series of shots. We shot off some fireworks out at the lake this past long weekend and I attempted to capture them. They are not as sharp as I would have liked but hey, this was my first attempt. I will have to wait until next year for another attempt. I like how the light worked in them. It was easier than I expected.

Photo For Now #003

Photo For Now #003 is one that I wish I had when I was gathering photos for my assignment in my course for unit 2. I have my son framed very nicely through the culvert. The ditches have been quite wet this past summer especially in June when I was working on that unit. Oh well, it's nice to have it now.

Photo For Now #001

Ok, so here we go. This is the first installment of Photo For Now. In these posts, I'm going to put some examples of my work. Usually one of my better and newer shots. I'll try not to go back too far in my archives.

So for this post, I have selected one from a sunrise series I did at Fork Lake Alberta. I'm not a big morning person so getting up at 5:30 am to shoot some photos was a big deal for me. As it was the sun didn't come up until after 6:30am and I had to wait for it to clear the cloud bank on the horizon.

It was cold, cold, cold! I had to hold my breath while taking the shots as my breath was clouding up the photos. I think the result was worth the wait and the cold. I took several shots using the cat tails along the shore to frame the rising sun. My favorite part of this photo is the flare around the sun. I like how it distorts the shape of the sun.
