Leaving Me Behind.

I was taking some photos of this pair of Geese sitting on a stack of pipe skids. They decided they had enough of my clickity click click click so the took off. They only hissed at me a couple of times so I count it a successful portrait session. :)

More Jasper - Maligne Canyon.

After our trip to Athabasca Falls, we ventured to Maligne Canyon for some hiking. There are 6 bridges in all from top to bottom. As for distance, I'm not sure, maybe 5kms or so.

For scale note the shadow of me in the lower left! It's about 53 meters deep at this location. My shadow is about 1/2 way down!

Hanging on tight!

Most of the trail is quite steep. Not a good place for running shoes.

Lots of ice on the trail in spots. The girls turned back just before this when it started to get quite icy.

We came across some trees that had been blown over last fall. These had not been cleared yet.

There are tours that will take you up the frozen river to the falls. Next year I'm there!

I love the coloring in the ice.

As you get towards the 5th bridge, you climb quite a ways above the river. You are pretty much out of the canyon and it gets very steep. Where did the handrails go? Nothing here but a goat path. Good thing my son and I are part Mountain Goat! As you go around the bend behind my son, you descend a fairly steep slope down to the 5th bridge.

Bridge 5 is a suspension bridge and by far the coolest of the bridges. It sways as you walk across it. here you are completely out of the canyon and the walk to bridge 6 is fairly level and kind of boring.

Here the river widens and slows before meeting up with the Athabasca River. As the season progresses, there is more water flowing here.

More Jasper - Athabasca Falls.

Athabasca Falls in the spring or late fall is a mix of running water and frozen falls. It's amazing to see the falls frozen in place as if time has stopped. Then from behind them you hear the water running and out from the bottom it comes.

Frozen in time. At the bottom of the frame you can see the water emerging from behind the frozen falls.

The stairway down to the lower canyon was extremely icy.

Then the path to the second stair case was almost impassable. I decided not to venture down.

To be continued.

Spring Break Trip To Jasper.

I love Jasper National Park. The mountains, the wildlife, the nature. I just love the great out doors.

We took advantage of my son being on spring break and we went to Jasper for a few days. Sure there isn't much in the way of green other than the evergreen trees but there is just something about getting away for a few days that just makes it all worth while.

Here are some photos from our trip.

The view of the interior of the Sawridge Hotel that we stayed at in Jasper. We love this hotel and stay here if we are hotelling it.

Nothing like all those mountains for a great backdrop to a photo.03312010 IMG_1249 50D

Any direction you turn offers some great photo opps.

Wild life just jumps out every where you look. In town, just outside of town and at most of the attractions. Even along side the highway.
